Differences Between DF and DC
November 19th, 2008 by Kimberly

As you may have noticed, I haven’t been posting as often as I did in Mexico City. Two major reasons: I am working full-time as a full-time student and it is much cheaper to call my family from within the United States. Blogging whenever I had cool photos of Mexica ruins was a great way to show my parents what I had been doing in Mexico in my free time. However, even if the United States had as many amazing ancient ruins to wander, I would have less time to explore them with papers, readings and classes.

I have two albums to share right now. During Election Day, I went to celebrate with the happiest Democrats in all of America. Virginia elected former Governor Mark Warner by a huge margin and more gains were made in the House as well. Gerry Connolly won an open seat vacated by Tom Davis, Glenn Nye defeated Thelma Drake and it looks like Tom Perriello might defeat Virgil Goode. Oh yeah, and for the first time since Lyndon B. Johnson’s landslide victory in 1964, the state went for a Democrat in a presidential race.

Mark Warner gives a small victory speech.

Before Election Day, I also have some pictures from Gettysburg to share. The day we went was rainy and overcast. Our tour guide told us that if it had been muggier and more humid, it would have been closer to the day of the actual battle.

It really was a beautiful area. I am not accustomed to so many open green fields, but as the tour guide pointed out the tactical terrain advantages that certain areas provided and the restored cannons from the battle, I was reminded of the actual battle that took place there over a century ago.
